Blue Hen Men's Golfers Open Spring Season at Bash at the Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of Delaware men's golf team opens its 2018 spring season this week when the Blue Hens compete in the Bash at the Beach Tournament.
The tournament features two rounds on Monday and one on Tuesday on the par 71, 6,741-yard course at The Surf Golf and Beach Club. The 10-team invitational includes the Blue Hens, tournament host Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Hampton, Longwood, Newberry College, St. Anselm College, Tennessee Tech, Valparaiso, and Walsh.
The Blue Hens, led by head coach Patty Post, posted four top-10 finishes in five tournaments during the fall season, including tying for second place at the George Mason Patriot Invitational.
UD senior Kieran Purcell led Delaware with a 72.13 average round and three top-10 finishes in the fall, while classmate Jack Gianniny was second on the squad by averaging 74.00 shots per round. Blaine Lafferty (74.25 average round), Jack Melville (74.73) and Christian Chapman (75.92) will also compete at the invitational for the Blue Hens, along with RJ Wren, who participated in one tournament during the fall.
The Bash at the Beach Tournament is the first of six spring invitationals for the Blue Hens, who will return to action on Mar. 12-13 at the USF Invitational at Tampa Golf & Country Club. Delaware also will participate in the Kingsmill Intercollegiate on Mar. 25-27 in Williamsburg, Va., the Manor Intercollegiate on Mar. 30-31 In Farmville, Va., and the Wildcat Invitational on Apr. 9-10 in Malvern, Pa.
The CAA Championship will take place on Apr. 20-22 at Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.
