Hens Use Second Half to Push Past Hofstra, 12-8

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Blue Hens returned to the win column Friday evening and garnered their first Colonial Athletic Association triumph of the season by topping Hofstra, 12-8, at James M. Shuart Stadium.
Tied at 5-5 early in the second half, UD tallied seven of the game's final 10 goals en route to victory.
Sydney Rausa (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) picked up her sixth hat trick of the year and added an assist to finish the day with four points. The sophomore also collected two ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover as Delaware improves to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in CAA action.
Senior captain Becky Gohsler (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) registered a hat trick of three goals to go along with four draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
On the defensive end, junior Chantae Simms (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) collected a game-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers while classmate Caroline Farley (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) notched seven draw controls and a goal for the Hens.
Senior Taylor Carpentier (Garden City, N.J./Garden City) logged seven saves and three ground balls in the cage.
Alyssa Parrella led the Pride (7-6, 1-2 CAA) with five points on two goals and three assists.

· Sarah Comstock scored her first-career goal to give the Hens the 8-6 lead in the second half.
· Delaware outshot Hofstra, 22-21.
· UD also held the advantage in ground balls (14-12) and draw controls (13-8).
· The Hens were a perfect 15-of-15 in clears.
· Mia DeRuggiero has posted a team-best 26 assists this season, a mark good to tie for eighth in Blue Hens single-season history.
