NEWARK, Del. – A late comeback by the Blue Hens came up short Friday evening as Delaware fell to Elon, 10-6, at Delaware Stadium.
The Phoenix jumped out to an early lead and held the 7-2 advantage mid-way through the second half before the Hens (6-9, 1-3 CAA) rallied for four of the next five scores to bring it within two with a little more than two minutes remaining. Elon didn't back down however and posted the final two goals of the game for the win.
Junior Caroline Farley (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) registered her third career hat trick, and first of the season, to go along with three draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover to lead Delaware.
Senior captain Becky Gohsler (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) added two goals of her own while logging a game-high five draw controls.
Senior Taylor Carpentier (Garden City, N.J./Garden City) collected game-bests of nine saves and six ground balls for the Hens.
Stephanie Asher guided the Phoenix (3-10, 2-2 CAA) with four goals and an assist while Jacie Cooper recorded four assists and a goal.

“A quick start from Elon was the difference maker. We didn't generate enough offense in the first half and in the second half, we made a run but it was too short lived for us to solidify a victory.”
