Hens Falter in CAA Opener at #4 James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Sophomore Katie Caddigan (Fulton, Md./River Hill) tied a career-high with four points, but the Blue Hens were overpowered by No. 4 James Madison, 19-5, in Friday's Colonial Athletic Association opener at Sentara Park.
Caddigan posted a team-high two goals to along with two assists, her first in a Delaware uniform.
The Hens (5-7, 0-1 CAA) also saw goals from junior Maggie McCarthy (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) and sophomore Sydney Rausa (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) while freshman Hannah Wentzel (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) registered her first career tally and junior Sarah Comstock (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) dished out an assist.
Senior captain Becky Gohsler (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) led Delaware with four draw controls, a mark that moved her into second in program single-season history with 50 draw controls on the year.
Freshman Kate Brewster (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) came in off the bench to record nine saves, two ground balls and one caused turnover in 42 minutes of action.
Elena Romesburg guided the Dukes (10-1, 1-0 CAA) with five goals and two caused turnovers while Haley Warden notched nine draw controls.
