Four Blue Hens Selected for Postseason CAA Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Four Blue Hens garnered All-Conference accolades, as voted on by the league's head coaches and announced by the Colonial Athletic Association Thursday.
Senior captain Becky Gohsler (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) led as an All-First Team pick in back-to-back seasons.
The CAA also honored senior Taylor Carpentier (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), junior Chantae Simms (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) and sophomore Mia DeRuggiero (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) as Second Team selections.
Gohsler leads Delaware with 49 points on a team-best 34 goals to go along with 15 assists. The midfielder is also first for the Hens with a program-record 75 draw controls and 34 caused turnovers while ranking in the Top 10 of seven CAA statistical categories. Gohsler recently collected her 100th career goal and has registered 129 career points in a Delaware uniform. She is second all-time with 180 draw controls and third with 76 caused turnovers.
Carpentier earned the Second Team nod for the third consecutive year for the Blue Hens. The goalie leads the CAA with 47 ground balls and 162 saves and is second with a 46.7 save percentage, fourth with a 12.09 GAA and ninth with 24 caused turnovers. Carpentier ranks sixth in Delaware history with 400 career saves.
In a career-year for Simms, the defender ranks second in the league with 45 ground balls and seventh with 28 caused turnovers to garner her first conference postseason award.
DeRuggiero, an All-Rookie Team pick a year ago, is second in program single-season history with 35 assists. The midfielder added four goals for 39 points with 21 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.
Kristen Gaudian (No. 5/4 James Madison) was named the 2018 CAA Player of the Year while Dukes head coach Shelley Klaes-Bawcome garnered Coach of the Year accolades. Haley Warden (James Madison) and Olivia Conti (Towson) shared Defensive Player of the Year honors while Colleen Grady (Drexel) was tabbed the Rookie of the Year.
Delaware (8-9, 3-3 CAA) takes on top-seed JMU (16-1, 6-0 CAA) in Friday's CAA semifinals contest at 4 p.m. at Sentara Park in Harrisonburg, Va.
