Mike Keogh Award Lowest Scoring Average Award
The Mike Keogh Award was established in 2017 to recognize the Blue Hen men's golfer who posts the lowest scoring average for the season.
The award is named in honor of Keogh, who was Delaware's men's golf head coach from 2001-17. He led his teams to 134 tournament top-10 finishes, including 16 team titles. His 2012-13 squad, which posted six top-five finishes on the year, tied for its highest Colonial Athletic Association Tournament showing with a fifth place finish. Keogh's 2005-06 squad also placed fifth at the CAA Tournament.
Keogh was named the 2015 CAA Coach of the Year after guiding a young squad to four second place finishes and a sixth place result at the league championship. The Blue Hens featured four players who carded a round in the 60's, while 10 players posted top-10 individual finishes.
Throughout his tenure at Delaware, Keogh coached two conference tournament champions and NCAA Tournament participants in Justin Martinson (2010) and Greg Matthias (2012). Martinson played professionally on the Web.com Tour and NGA Pro Golf Tour while Joey McLister, who enjoyed a record-breaking career for the Blue Hens in 2004-07, played on the Web.com Tour and competed in two PGA Tour events.
Keogh led Delaware to its most successful season in 2009-10, as the Blue Hens won a school-record four consecutive tournaments during the fall of 2009. Additionally Keogh oversaw an incredible season by Martinson, who became the first UD golfer to win a conference title by earning medalist honors at the CAA Tournament.
Keogh's 2016-17 squad featured six players with a stroke average under 75.00 for the first time in school history.
Keogh is a 1973 Delaware graduate who lettered for the golf team in 1972 under legendary head coach Scotty Duncan.
