RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware men's basketball team's 2018-19 conference schedule is set, as the Colonial Athletic Association announced its league slate for the upcoming season on Thursday.
This season will be the first of a five-year rotating conference schedule that pairs each school with a travel partner; the Blue Hens' travel partner will be Drexel. With the exception of the opening weekend (Friday/Sunday), teams will compete in a Thursday/Saturday format that features back-to-back games at home or on the road. During the two weeks in which a team faces its travel partner, both squads will have a bye on Thursday night before playing on Saturday.
Teams will once again play an 18-game league schedule with all 10 CAA teams facing each other at home and on the road.
Delaware kicks off league play against Hofstra for the third time in four years as the Blue Hens take on the Pride in Hempstead on Dec. 28, before heading north to Boston for a Dec. 30 matchup with Northeastern. UD plays its CAA home opener on Jan. 3 vs. William & Mary, and welcomes Elon to the Bob Carpenter Center on Jan. 5.
Delaware opens its first southern swing on Jan. 10 at UNCW, before heading to Charleston on Jan. 12. The Blue Hens then play three consecutive home games, taking on James Madison on Jan. 17, Towson on Jan. 19 and Drexel on Jan. 26.
UD heads south again on Jan. 31 to face Elon, before heading to William & Mary on Feb. 2. The Blue Hens are back home the following weekend, hosting Charleston on Feb. 7 and UNCW on Feb. 9.
After a trip to Towson on Feb. 14 and James Madison on Feb. 16, Delaware plays its final road game at Drexel on Feb. 23. The Blue Hens then wrap up the regular season with home contests against Northeastern on Feb. 28 and Hofstra on Mar. 2.
The 2019 CAA Men's Basketball Championship will be held March 9-12 at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, S.C. for the third consecutive year. Delaware's non-conference schedule is expected to be announced later this summer.
