Blue Hen Golfer Jack Melville Qualifies for U.S. Amateur

WILMINGTON, Del. – Jack Melville, a rising junior on the University of Delaware men's golf team, shared medalist honors in a U.S. Amateur Qualifier on Monday at nearby Bidermann Golf Club, qualifying for the prestigious U.S. Amateur.
Melville carded a two over par 74-72-146 on the par 72, 6,871-yard course to tie for first place in the 70-player field. His outstanding day qualified him for the U.S. Amateur which will take place August 13-19 at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Melville was two shots off the lead at two over par following his opening round, but birdied the first, sixth, 12th and 13th holes during his even par second round to tie for the lead.
Melville, a native of Maple Glen, Pa. (Upper Dublin), competed in all but one tournament for the Blue Hens last year, ranking third on the team with a 75.18 average round. He tied for third place at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial and tied for 11th place at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational, finishing at two over par in both events.
