Blue Hens Open Jacksonville Classic With 9-1 Loss to LIU Brooklyn

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Delaware softball team opened action at the Jacksonville Classic by falling to LIU Brooklyn, 9-1 in six innings, Friday afternoon.
The Blackbirds broke the game open with five runs in the top of the third inning on a two-run single by Samantha Garcia, an RBI double by Alina Castillo and a two-run double by Ryleigh Bermea.
Delaware scored its only run of the day in the bottom of the third as Hanna Garber reached on an error and came around to score on three wild pitches.
Bermea added a three-run homer for LIU Brooklyn in the top of the fifth and singled home the game's final run the following frame.
Garber, Karolina Flores, Brittney Mendoxa and Sarah Bessel each singled for the Blue Hens.
