Delaware Falls to Harvard, LIU Brooklyn at Jacksonville Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Delaware softball team fell to Harvard, 3-2, and LIU Brooklyn, 7-0, Saturday afternoon during the second day of the Jacksonville Classic.
During the Blue Hens' first game of the day, Halle Kisamore put UD on the board in the top of the first inning by drilling a solo home run to left field. However Harvard answered in the bottom half on an RBI single by Morgan Melito.
The Crimson took the lead in the bottom of the second when Trina Hoang hit a sacrifice fly, while a run-scoring single by Rhianna Rich in the bottom of the fourth gave Harvard a 3-1 lead.
Delaware rallied in the top of the seventh as Ali Davis walked, Miranda O'Donald was hit by a pitch and Hanna Garber singled to load the bases. Davis then crossed the plate on a wild pitch with two outs, and the bases were again loaded after Anna Steinmetz walked. However pinch hitter Brooke Glanden struck out looking to end the game.
Garber and Kisamore each finished with two hits for the Blue Hens, while Sarah Piening allowed three runs (two earned) with two strikeouts during six innings in the circle.
The Blue Hens then faced LIU Brooklyn for the second time in as many days, and the teams were scoreless through four and a half innings. The Blackbirds then took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Katie Hinkle reached on an error and scored two outs later on an RBI single by Schae Dickson.
LIU Brooklyn the put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a three run double from Samantha Garcia.
Garber, Steinmetz and Sarah Coyne had the three UD hits, while Maddi Marsh allowed six runs (five earned) in the circle.
