PHILADELPHIA – Drexel put four players in double figures as the Dragons posted a 68-60 win over Delaware Saturday night at the Daskalakis Center.
The Blue Hens (16-13, 8-8 CAA) were led by Ryan Allen, who scored 18 points and dished out five assists on the night. Eric Carter added 17 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Ryan Johnson contributed eight points and Darian Bryant chipped in with seven.
Camren Wynter paced Drexel (13-16, 7-9 CAA) with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Aliham Demir contributed 13 points. James Butler grabbed nine boards for the Dragons, who held a 39-24 rebounding margin.
The first 12 minutes were a seesaw affair that featured nine lead changes, as a Johnson layup gave the Blue Hens a 16-15 lead with eight and a half minutes on the clock. However Drexel scored the next nine points over a nearly four-minute stretch and eventually took a 27-21 advantage into the break.
Blue Hens still within six at 46-40 following a Carter layup with 9:39 left but Drexel answered with an eight-point spurt, going in front 53-40 at the 7:47 mark.
Delaware was down 57-42 but quickly answered with seven points, and pulled within 61-56 with 1:35 to play after two Allen free throws. The Blue Hens then forced a steal, but Allen's jumper was off the mark and the Blue Hens did not get closer.
Head Coach Martin Ingelsby
"Tonight was a tough one for us but give Drexel credit, they wanted it more than we did. We took care of the basketball, but the offensive backboard was our Achilles heel. We're still trying to find a way to manufacture points. Our guys are searching a little bit, and I have to find ways to help them."
