In the Blue Hens' first game of the day, Delaware (6-8) jumped in front of the Bulls by scoring three times in the top of the first inning. Hanna Garber and Halle Kisamore each singled to open the contest, and after both runners scored when Brooke Glanden reached on an error, Anna Steinmetz delivered an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game.
Ali Davis singled in the top of the second before eventually scoring on an RBI groundout by Garber, while Delaware tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth to make it a six-run game. Garber led off the frame with a bunt single and scored on a Glanden triple, while one out later Karolina Flores legged out an infield single to chase home Glanden.
Buffalo (1-12) got on the board in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer, before consecutive triples by Kisamore and Glanden in the seventh capped the scoring for the Blue Hens.
Sarah Piening went the distance in the circle for UD, allowing just two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts to pick up her fourth win of the year.
The Blue Hens carried that momentum into their game against the Spartans (5-6), taking control early with four runs in the bottom of the first. Garber scored the first run of the contest on an error, before Kisamore crossed the plate on a double steal. Glanden then scored when Flores reached on a fielder's choice, while Brittney Mendoza capped the rally with an RBI single.
However Norfolk State scored a run in the top of the third, before taking the lead with four runs in the fifth. Delaware tied the game in the bottom of the seventh as Miranda O'Donald reached on an error, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a two-out RBI single by Glanden.
The Spartans scored twice in the top of the eighth inning, but Delaware again rallied in the bottom half when Mendoza tripled home pinch runner Sarah Bessel. However the next two Blue Hen batters struck out to end the game.
Glanden finished the day 5 for 8 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored while Kisamore, Steinmetz and Davis all recorded three hits as well.
