Delaware Drops CAA Opener at Drexel, 9-2

PHILADELPHIA – Delaware took the lead two batters into the game but Drexel took control from there as the Dragons defeated the Blue Hens, 9-2, Saturday afternoon in both teams' Colonial Athletic Association opener.
Hanna Garber led off the game with a single, while Brooke Glanden followed with an RBI triple and scored on the play on an error by the Dragons catcher to give the Blue Hens (11-13, 0-1 CAA) a quick two-run advantage.
However Drexel (10-10, 1-0 CAA) immediately answered by pushing across six runs in the bottom of the first. Linda Rush and Hannah Walker each belted two-run homers in the frame, while Elena Woulfe capped the rally with an RBI single.
Rush added her second two-run blast in the bottom of the fifth, before Walker singled home another run later in the inning to conclude the scoring.
Anna Steinmetz finished 2 for 3 at the plate for Delaware, while six Blue Hens added a hit apiece.
The teams conclude their weekend series with a 12 noon doubleheader on Sunday.
