PHILADELPHIA – Delaware dropped a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader at Drexel Sunday afternoon, falling to the Dragons 5-4 and 5-2.
Drexel (12-10, 3-0 CAA) jumped ahead in the opener on an RBI single by Haley Hulitt in the bottom of the first, while Megan Trivelpiece added an RBI double in the fourth and a two-run double in the fifth to make it a 4-0 game.
Delaware (11-15, 0-3 CAA) mustered just two hits through the first five innings, but rallied in the final two frames. After Miranda O'Donald singled and Hanna Garber doubled to open the sixth, both runners crossed the plate when Halle Kisamore laced a single to centerfield.
The Dragons tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double by Jenelle Ladrido, before Delaware made a final charge in the seventh. Ali Davis and Reyna de Jesus led off the inning with walks, before Chayanna Gallardo ripped a two-run double to left as the Blue Hens closed within a run. However Drexel retired the next three UD batters to hold on for the win.
The Dragons took an early lead in the nightcap when Linda Rush belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, while Kristi DiMeo added a solo shot in the third to make it a 3-0 game. Brooke Glanden smacked her fourth home run of the season in the top of the fourth to put Delaware on the board, but Elena Woulfe and Rush answered with RBI singles in the bottom half to put Drexel up four.
Garber singled, stole second and scored on a double by Glanden in the top of the sixth, but the Blue Hens would not get closer.
Garber and Glanden each finished with three hits on the day for Delaware, while Gallardo and O'Donald added a hit apiece in both contests.
