Blue Hens Pile Up Victories at Eastern Shore Challenge

SALISBURY, Md. – Simply put, winning is fun.
The University of Delaware track & field program is having a lot of fun recently, taking home its third straight weekend team title, this time winning the 2019 Eastern Shore Challenge, hosted by Salisbury University.
"I'm really proud about how our team has continually been putting out great efforts. We all take great pride in having a chance to represent our University at these meets and we're able to represent as well as our student-athletes have been this year, it's tremendous," head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith said. "We still have a lot of the season left and we have to continue to keep working every week. We're all excited to continue to compete."
Seniors Carlyn McGrath (100m hurdles), Ashley Bailey (pole vault) and Alexis Lipnicky (javelin), along with the 4x100 relay, as well as sophomores Taliah Cintron (400m hurdles), Kai Starnes (high jump), Myrissa McFolling-Young (shot put), Olivia Duffy (hammer throw) and freshmen Samantha Side (3000m steeplechase) and Ruby Mullen (triple jump) all took home wins at the meet.
In total, the Blue Hens earned 26 top-three finishes to earn 270 points, more than double their next closest competition.
Bailey piled up win #29 of her illustrious career, clearing a season-best 12' 9 ½" at the meet.
The Blue Hens dominated the triple jump, coming away with the top-four spots in the event, including Mullen's first collegiate victory with a jump of 38 3 ¼", which was a personal best and ranks in the top-10 in the CAA.
McGrath's time of 14.65 in the 100m hurdles was a season-best for the veteran and ranks as the sixth-best time in the CAA this spring.
Cintron and senior Carly Pettipaw continued to put up good showings in the 400m. Cintron's time of 1:01.51 moved her into fourth all-time in program history in the event, while Pettipaw secured a spot at ECACs with a time of 1:02.72. Both times rank in the top-three in the CAA this spring.
Starnes tied a career-best by clearing 5'3" to take home the high jump event title. The mark also ranks her in the top-10 in the conference this spring.
The throws had yet again a dominant weekend for Delaware, taking home seven top-three finishes, including winning three of the four events.
Up Next
Delaware will make the short trek north to the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University next weekend. Events get started on Friday, April 19 and will run through Saturday, April 20.
