NEWARK, Del. – There's no place quite like home.
The University of Delaware track & field team proved that once again this weekend, piling up 11 individual event wins en route to the team title of the 2019 Delaware Open on a beautiful Sunday at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
Highlight those 11 wins was senior Ashley Bailey, who was performing for the last time in her home state. In that showing, Bailey set a new school record clearing 13' 2 ½". It's the second-best mark in the CAA this spring and ranks in the top-30 of the East Region.
Bailey was one of three seniors to earn victories in their final home meets. Maame Kyeadea-Amponsah (400m) and Alexis Lipnicky (javelin) also wrapped up their home careers with wins.
Sophomore Bethany Clement won the hammer with a season-best 164' 8", which was a top-10 performance in school history, while classmate Myrissa McFolling-Young won both the shot put and discus at the meet.
Also picking up wins at the meet was freshman Arianna Richards (200m), sophomore Jessica Harding (800m), freshman Tina Capparell (1500m), freshman Samantha Side (3000m steeplechase), sophomore Kai Starnes (high jump) and freshman Whitney Bailey-Hicks (long jump).
