Blue Hens Take Home Colonial Relays Championship For Second Straight Year

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – It appears the University of Delaware women's track & field team are history buffs. Well, at least it seems the Blue Hens are a fan of Williamsburg, Va., a spot rich in American history.Â

For the second straight year, the Blue Hens came back from the historic Colonial Relays as champions after a weekend full of ECAC qualifiers, school records and personal bests.Â

"Our team continues to put forth tremendous effort and this weekend was no different," head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith said. "I'm really proud of how this group is pushing each other in every area. They support and really give energy to each other and you can see it in their performances each week."

Delaware had eight different performances that were ECAC qualifiers and a school record from the 4x1500 relay squad. In total, the Blue Hens had 24 top-10 finishers at the meet.Â

The Blue Hens were dominant in the relays with five of the six finishing in the top-four of the event. Delaware's 4x1500 relay of Michaela Meyer, Val Romero, Susanna Weir and Dianna Dunn raced to a school record and victory in the event with a time of 18:34.22. The mark was more than 30 seconds better than the previous school record.Â

Delaware's 4x100 team of Andrienne Rose, Isis Pinkney,Roshelle Leaks and Halima Scott grabbed a second-place finish and ECAC qualifying time at 47.49, while the 4x400 of Nadia Khoury, Sydni Stovall, Alyssa Armor and Meyer claimed a time good enough for ECACs at 3:45.81, good for third place.Â

The Blue Hens were outstanding in the throws once again with Myrissa McFolling Young taking home the discus title with a toss of 152' 11". In the hammer, Olivia Duffy and Bethany Clement grabbed top three finishes, while Alexis Lipnicky took home a sixth-place finish in the javelin.Â

Senior Jeannette Bendolph posted the fourth-best time in the CAA and grabbed a top-10 finish in the 800m with a time of 2:11.34. The time was also good for an ECAC qualifying mark.Â

Sophomore Taliah Cintron (1:02.89) and senior Carly Pettipaw (1:03.10) both clocked in the top-10 in the 400m with Cintron claiming an ECAC qualifying time and both with top-three times in the league.Â

The Blue Hens grabbed two ECAC qualifiers in the 10000m with outstanding performances from junior Stephanie Bazan (36:19.10) and Leanza Lopez (37:39.39).Â
Â
In the steeplechase, Roxanne Ramirez (11:01.66) and Analise Kaminski (11:16.49) posted the third and fourth best times in the CAA. Ramirez's time is the third best in school history.Â
