Blue Hens, Pulgini Fifth After First Day of Villanova Spring Invitational

MALVERN, Pa. – The Delaware men's golf team sits in fifth place while freshman Matt Pulgini is tied for fifth following Monday's opening round of the Villanova Spring Invitational.

The Blue Hens carded a 287 on Monday, ending the day in fifth place out of 20 squads. Drexel leads the field with a 272 score, while Akron sits in second place at 274.

Pulgini fired a three under par 68 on the par 71, 6,733-yard course at White Manor Country Club, and is tied for fifth place in the individual standings. Pulgini birdied the eighth, 11th and 15th holes during his opening round, while adding 15 pars and not recording a bogey.

Connor Schmidt of Drexel sits in first place with an eight under par 63, while Beau Bayerl of Arkron is three shots back.

Roberto Nieves, Nick Vecellio and Jack Melville each fired two over par rounds of 73 on Monday and are tied for 30th place. RJ Wren, who carded a 10 over par 81, is tied for 99th place.

The final round of the tournament will take place on Tuesday.
