RICHMOND, Va. – Three Blue Hens earned All-conference recognition, as voted on by the league's head coaches and announced by the Colonial Athletic Association Thursday.
Senior Chantae Simms and junior Mia DeRuggiero led as First Team picks. The pair were each Second Team selections in the 2018 season.
The CAA also named junior Julia Dambly to the Second Team.
Simms finished the year tied for the single-season school record with 39 caused turnovers, and is only second in Delaware history with 90 career caused turnovers. The defender ranks seventh nationally with 2.44 caused turnovers per game.
This year, DeRuggiero broke the 35-year-old school single-season record with 46 assists, tying her for fifth overall in CAA history. The attacker also leads the CAA and ranks sixth nationally with 2.88 assists per game and is third in the CAA with 3.88 points per game. DeRuggiero posted 10-plus point contests against both Oregon and Towson.
Dambly earns CAA honors just a year after missing the entire 2018 campaign due to an ACL injury. She ranks second for Delaware on draw controls and caused turnovers, and third in ground balls.
Hofstra's Alyssa Parrella was named 2019 CAA Player of the Year, while head coach Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe, of James Madison, earned Coach of the Year accolades. Caroline Sdanowich and Molly Doherty of James Madison earned Defensive Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year, respectively. Elon's Kaley Thompson rounded out the 2019 CAA accolades as Rookie of the Year.
