JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – When Ashley Bailey came to the University of Delaware in the fall of 2015, she had one intention in mind.
"I wanted to be a role model for my nephew."
Bailey did much more than that during her four years in Newark. The Middletown, Del. native piled up 27 career victories with the Blue Hens track & field squad, she broke two school records and is one of just seven student-athletes to ever reach back-to-back NCAA East Prelims.
On Friday night, her illustrious career came to a close.
Next week, Bailey will become her family's first college graduate, an accomplishment that will serve as much more of an inspiration than anything the record holder ever did in the pole vault pit.
