PHILADELPHIA – The University of Delaware men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 non-conference verdict to Temple Tuesday night at the Temple Sports Complex.
The Owls scored the only goal of the match in the 49th minute when Lukas Fernandes hit the post on a shot from the left side, before Amir Cohen collected the rebound and found the back of the net from eight yards out.
Blue Hen goalkeeper Nick DeShong, making his first start for Delaware, kept UD in the match by making 13 saves, including a few from point blank range. DeShong's 13 saves are tied for 10th most in a match in program history, and the most since Chris Jones also stopped 13 shots at Drexel on Nov. 3, 2005.
Temple took 23 shots on the night, including 14 on the goal, while holding the Blue Hens without a shot.
Delaware returns to Colonial Athletic Association play on Saturday when the Blue Hens host UNCW at Grant Stadium at 7 p.m.
Head Coach Ian Hennessy

"I very much appreciated the energy and discipline of our young team this evening. Temple is a very good AAC team and it was an opportunity for our younger players to compete ahead of an important conference game this weekend. The lads showed great discipline and character and I hope developed a taste for the game we can build upon and tap into again as the season grows. UNCW is one of the CAA favorites this year and I hope we can draw a good home crowd like we had in the win against West Virginia in our previous home game."
