NEWARK, Del. – There's no place like home.
The University of Delaware women's cross country team showed that on Saturday morning, grabbing 13 of the top 20 spots at the annual Delaware Invitational to win the overall team title, taking first among the seven teams that competed.
Freshman Jessica Stratton had a huge day, cruising to a time of 24:01 for the six-kilometer course to take home second place overall and the top Delaware finisher. Junior Deja Rodriguez-Santiago was just seven seconds behind her for third place. Seniors Analise Kaminski and Stephanie Palese also took home top-10 finishes for the Blue Hens. Rounding out the top-10 for Delaware was freshman Jessica Pidegon, who clocked in at 24:21.
What They Said
"This was a great team win for us. Our usual top eight ran this meet as a tempo run, so it was all on the number nine through 15 runners to compete for the team win and they did just that, stepping up in a major way. At the halfway point, Saint Joe's had a pretty big lead on us, but over the final couple miles, Jess, Deja, Analise, Steph and Jessica all had strong finishes to overtake them for the team win. I'm really proud of the way they battled today. I'm excited to build off of this going into the next couple races." – Head Coach Ryan Waite
