Delaware Can’t Get Bats Going in 2-0 Loss to Radford

FAIRFAX, Va. – Delaware mustered just five hits as the Blue Hens fell to Radford, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at the Patriot Classic.

The Highlanders, who defeated Delaware for the second consecutive day, scored the only run they would need in the top of the second when Destiny Freeman led off with a single, moved to second on a groundout, and scored on an RBI single by Madison Canady.

Radford added an insurance run in the third when Riley Oakes led off with a single and eventually crossed the plate on a groundout by Freeman.

The Blue Hens did not have more than one hit in any inning. Delaware put the tying runners on base in the seventh when Kailey Christian singled and Katie Stahre reached on a fielder's choice, but Sarah Bessel and Hanna Garber each lined out to end the game.

Chayanna Gallardo and Brittney Mendoza each doubled for the Blue Hens while Halle Kisamore, Garber and Christian added singles. Emily Winburn went the entire way in the circle, allowing two runs on nine hits and posting three strikeouts.
