Delaware Drop OT Heartbreaker at No. 25 Georgetown, 12-11

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A spirited upset bid came up just short Saturday afternoon as Delaware fell to No. 25 Georgetown, 12-11, at Cooper Field.
The Blue Hens saw hat tricks from both Claire D'Antonio and Mia DeRuggiero. D'Antonio finished the day with four goals while DeRuggiero contributed three goals and two assists.
Delaware scored three of the first four goals of the contest and held a tight 7-6 advantage at the halftime break. The Hens started the second half hot by again scoring three of the first four goals before the Hoyas rattled off four straight of their own to take the 11-10 lead.
An unassisted goal with 2:33 remaining from DeRuggiero tied things at 11-11 to send the contest into overtime.
Ali Diamond registered the game-winner for Georgetown with 2:10 left in overtime.
Kate Brewster collected a season-best 18 saves while Julia Dambly registered five draw controls for the Blue Hens.
