Delaware Tops Elon in Double OT for First CAA Win of the Season

NEWARK, Del. – The Blue Hens opened conference play in exciting fashion Saturday afternoon with their 12-11 double overtime win against Elon at Delaware Stadium.
UD scored four of the final five goals in regulation, including a free position shot from Mia DeRuggiero with 41 seconds left on the game clock, to send things into overtime. Claire D'Antonio picked up the game-winner with 2:11 remaining in the second overtime period.
The Hens also picked up three of the first four scored of the day, but Elon rallied to lead, 7-5, at halftime.
D'Antonio and DeRuggiero joined Christine Long in posting hat tricks in the game. DeRuggiero added one assist for four points while Kate Bradford tallied one goal and two assists for three points.
Long collected a game-high six draw controls for the Hens and Julia Dambly recorded four.
Kate Brewster posted three saves in her eighth career win.
