NEW ORLEANS, La. – On Saturday, Michaela Meyer will become a University of Delaware graduate.
Today, however, she earned another prestigious honor when she officially became the first-ever Indoor All-American in Blue Hens track & field history with the announcement by the USTFCCCA recognizing all the indoor participants at the 2020 National Championships that had their competition canceled in March.
"Michaela was extremely deserving of this honor. Running as fast as she did this year and being ranked 4th in the nation puts her in an elite group of athletes, and this All-American honor reflects that," Assistant Track & Field Coach Ryan Waite said. "Michaela really loves the University of Delaware. One of the first things she said when she found out was that she was so happy that the team was receiving this recognition. It really says a lot about her and where her focus has been in her time as a Blue Hen. We're grateful for everything she has done for our program."
Meyer wrapped up her Delaware career with an unforgettable performance at the Boston Last Chance Invitational in February. She blistered the competition to the tune of 2:03.40, which is six seconds faster than any other runner in program history and was the fourth fastest time in the entire country this indoor season.
The Southbury, Conn. native graduates as a record holder in eight different events (indoor – 500m, 800m, 4x800 and DMR; outdoor – 800m, 4x800, 4x1500 and SMR).
