Greenly and Riley impressed in their shortened rookie seasons
TUSCON, Ariz. – The Delaware baseball program was the only Colonial Athletic Association representative to produce multiple Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-Americans in relief pitcher Bryce Greenly and outfielder Aidan Riley, the publication announced Tuesday morning.
This is the third straight season the Blue Hens produced a freshman All-American as Joseph Carpenter was honored a season ago and Billy Sullivan IV pitched his way to All-American status in 2018.Â
Â
Greenly was dominant on the mound, posting a team-best 0.96 ERA in 9.1 innings of work out of the Blue Hens bullpen. He compiled 15 strikeouts to seven walks, while allowing only four hits in the shortened season.
Â
In his final appearance on the mound, the Milford, Delaware native worked a scoreless 4.2 innings with eight punch outs and allowing just one hit to Rider in an 8-6 victory to earn his first career win. Greenly also struck out five in 2.1 scoreless innings of work against UMass Lowell, part of 6.1 scoreless from the Delaware bullpen that resulted in an extra-inning walk-off win.
Â
Riley was a spark in the Delaware lineup, leading the team with a .389 batting average, starting 10 games and appearing in 13 as a rookie. He ranked second on the team with 12 RBIs and roped three doubles while going 2-for-2 on stolen bases.
Â
The Middletown, Delaware native came up with a base hit in his first collegiate plate appearance and produced four multi-hit games in 10 multi-at-bat games. Riley had a 3-for-3 day against UMass Lowell with a pair of RBIs, a double and a run scored.
Â
The duo helped the Blue Hens end the season on a four-game win streak and six of the final eight games of the shortened year.
