NEWARK, Del. – Delaware knocked down nine three-pointers and used a stifling defensive effort to shut down Elon in a commanding 66-43 win over the Phoenix Saturday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Ebby Asamoah led the way with a game-high 14 points, including four triples, while Kevin Anderson was the other Blue Hen in double figures with 11 points to go with four assists. Dylan Painter narrowly missed his sixth consecutive double-double with nine points and 10 boards, while handing out a career-high five assists on the day.
Andrew Carr contributed eight points and seven rebounds, while Anthony Ochefu chipped in seven points and five boards. Delaware shot an even 50 percent from the field and enjoyed a 46-26 rebounding advantage.
The Blue Hens limited the Phoenix to just 30.5 percent shooting, including a 3 of 18 performance from behind the arc. Elon's 43 points scored are tied for the second fewest allowed by Delaware to a CAA opponent.
Delaware used a nine-point run to take an early 13-7 lead, and remained in front the rest of the way. A 10-2 spurt put the Blue Hens up double digits at 25-13 at the 6:34 mark, while layups by Asamoah and Painter in the final minute gave Delaware a 36-20 cushion at the half.
Asamoah then hit a pair of three-pointers while Anderson added one early in the second stanza, extending the Blue Hens' margin to 47-25 with 15:44 remaining. Delaware led comfortably the remainder of the afternoon, going up as much as 28 points at 65-37 on two Ochefu free throws at the 3:24 mark.
The Blue Hens' 23-point margin of victory is the fifth highest over a CAA opponent, and the highest since a 95-68 win over James Madison on Jan. 19, 2006.

"This was obviously a really good effort for us, especially for 40 minutes on the defensive end. Holding Elon to 30 percent shooting from the field, I thought we did a really good job guarding the three-point line and were pretty disciplined through all of their movement. We got into a good flow on the offensive end and shared the basketball with 16 assists. We did a good job throwing the ball inside, and Ebby gave us a boost with some three-point shots."
