The reigning CAA Player of the Year, senior guard/forward Jasmine Dickey, was selected as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year. Along with taking top player honors, the Baltimore, Md. native earned a spot on the preseason All-CAA first team for the second straight season while redshirt senior forward Ty Battle, a first-team All-CAA selection a season ago, joins Dickey on the preseason first team.
"It's an honor to be recognized by my fellow CAA coaches, for whom I have the utmost admiration and respect," said head coach Natasha Adair. "The Colonial Athletic Association is one of top conferences in the country. We compete night in and out against some of the best players. Our players, coaches and support staff have been committed to our mission, growth, development and success here at the University of Delaware since I arrived five years ago. I came here to win and build a sustainable culture of winning. Preseason highlights and accolades are a tribute to the tireless work that has been done on and off the court. Our players believed in and trusted the process from day one. They came here to develop holistically, compete on a national stage and to win championships. It's rewarding for them to see themselves excel as individuals and as a team. We are truly grateful to be highlighted as one of the preseason favorites. We will remain steadfast while we continue on our journey towards elite. Thank you all and let's go Hens."
Delaware (77 votes) picked up five of the 10 possible first place votes in the coaches' poll while the conference tournament champions Drexel (77) also received five first place votes, as both squads share the top spot. James Madison was projected to finish third with 64 votes, followed by Towson in fourth receiving 58 votes. Hofstra rounds out the top five with 47 votes. Elon (38), Charleston (33), William & Mary (29), UNCW (15) and Northeastern (12) were selected to finish sixth through 10th, respectively.
Dickey put together a remarkable junior year when she averaged 22.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.4 steals, 1.9 assists and 0.6 blocks per game. She led the nation with 607 field goal attempts and ranked in the top 10 in field goals made (237), points scored (656), free throw attempts (214), free throws made (170), offensive rebounds per game (4.6) and steals (71). Along with being top-10 in the nation, Dickey ranked 12th in scoring and led the way in the CAA in steals and second in scoring. She joined the 1,000-point club after scoring 19 points at James Madison on Feb. 21 to become the 28th player in program history to join the elusive list. Last week, Dickey added to her incredible resume by being named to the preseason watch list for the 2022 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award by Her Hoop Stats.🚨𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐓 🚨
