NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware swimming & diving teams got off to a solid start Saturday afternoon at Rawstrom Natatorium with the men taking care of business over Villanova, and the women falling by just one point in the team standings.
"It was amazing to be back in the water racing, especially at home," said head coach Pablo Marmolejo. "Our Blue Hens had a great meet after 11 months of not racing and the team really picked up where we left off last March."
Sophomore Ryan Polino swam to two victories in the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard freestyle, while also helping the Blue Hens win in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Senior Bryce Ciecko also won two individual events, including the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard free. Classmate Jeb Darhower was also victorious in the 200-yard IM.
Freshman Andrew Taylor won the 1000-yard freestyle in his collegiate debut and classmate Zach Sherk won the 100-yard breastrok, while another debut-win was by Simeon Sabev in the 200-yard butterfly.
Sophomore Mira Selling picked up right where she left off a season ago, winning the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.
Freshman Nicole Chiappa had a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and senior Audrey Duvall claimed the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard IM.
