Blue Hens Post Strong Showing at VMI Winter Classic

Lexington, Va. – Five Blue Hens had personal bests and two more qualified for the ECAC Championship as the Blue Hens indoor track & field team enjoyed an impressive weekend at the VMI Winter Classic.
"I am very pleased with everyone's effort today," says head coach Wendy McFarlane. "The ladies had positive vibes all weekend long and they brought that energy into their events to achieve standout performances."
Trinity Tapper placed second and ran a personal best 7.63s in the 60 meter dash, the third best time in school history. Tapper also placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.49s.
Bethany Clement won the weight throw with a toss of 56 feet, the second best throw of her career.
Chioma Njoku placed second in the weight throw with a new personal best and improved her own freshman record with a toss of 54' 9.5", moving up to third place in school history.
Freshmen Blue Hens finished first and second in the shot put, as Njoku (43' 5.75") won the event while Kosie Nkwonta (42' 0.75") placed second. With today's results, Njoku moves up to seventh in school history and Nkwonta moves into a tie for tenth all-time with her personal best throw.
Tina Capparell and Jessica Pidgeon finished first and second respectively in the 5000 meters, both running personal bests and finishing just outside Delaware's all-time top-10. Capparell finished with a time of 17:31.16, while Pidgeon crossed the finish line in 17:37.96.
Jessica Harding led from the gun to win the 1000 meters with a time of 3:07.11.
