NEWARK, N.J. – Paced by sophomore Mike Robinson and senior captain Mark Bieda, Delaware men's lacrosse rolled at NJIT, 15-4, Saturday afternoon at Lubetkin Field.
Robinson found the back of the net four times, adding one helper. Bieda posted a hat trick and added two assists.
Between the pipes, Matt Kilkeary allowed just two goals, making nine stops for a .818 save percentage. Freshman Kevin Ellington also saw his first career action in the net.
The first half was all Delaware, as the Blue Hens outpaced the Highlanders, 7-0. Bieda assisted on each of the first two scores, first by Robinson and the second by freshman Cam Acchione. Twin brother Matt Acchione capped the Delaware run with 6:22 remaining in the second quarter.
The Blue Hens picked up right where they left off in the second half, scoring the first three tallies and taking an 11-1 advantage into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter started with four more Blue Hen scores, including two by Robinson. NJIT scored the final three goals, but it would not be enough.
Delaware begins its home slate Tuesday against Saint Joseph's at 5 p.m.
