Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener To Temple, 17-10

Danika Swech notches hat trick in first competitive event in renovated Delaware Stadium
NEWARK, Del. – Delaware women's lacrosse dropped its season opener to Temple, 17-10, Saturday afternoon in the first competitive event inside the newly renovated Delaware Stadium.
Junior attack Danika Swech led the Blue Hens with three goals. The hat trick marked Swech's first goals since March 13, 2019, when she scored her only previous career tally in a 16-8 win over George Mason.
Delaware also got a pair of goals each from senior attack Kate Bradford, junior midfielder Kendra Schweizer and freshman attack Jenna McHale.
After Schweizer wove her way through the defense to tie the game at 3-3 with 12:08 left in the first half, the Owls went on a 6-0 run across 10 minutes to secure a 9-3 lead. The Blue Hens fought back in the final minutes of the half, and junior midfielder Meghan Johnson's first career goal brought Delaware to within 10-5 at halftime.
Temple opened the second half with five straight goals to build an insurmountable 15-5 lead midway through the period. The Blue Hens put in a valiant effort, closing the game on a 5-2 run with two goals apiece from Swech and Bradford.
Mackenzie Roth led Temple with four goals and two assists.
Delaware returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 24 with a home game against Delaware State at 4 p.m. Every Delaware home game this season will be streamed on both Hens All-Access and Lax Sports Network.
