Blue Hens Cruise Past Delaware State, 20-3

Eleven different Blue Hens score, including seven with their first collegiate goal
NEWARK, Del. – Delaware women's lacrosse cruised to a 20-3 win over Delaware State inside Delaware Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
Juniors Danika Swech and Kendra Schweizer each tallied hat tricks, while senior attack Kate Bradford recorded a game-high five assists. Eleven different Blue Hens scored in the win, including seven who notched their first collegiate goals.
Delaware improved to 1-1 on the season, while the Hornets dropped to 0-1 after their season opener.
The Blue Hens controlled the game from the opening draw, scoring the first five goals of the contest. Swech, who also scored a hat trick in the season opener against Temple, opened the scoring by putting away a feed from Bradford.
After Delaware State responded with a goal midway through the first half, Delaware went on a 9-0 run to build an insurmountable lead. The Hornets scored two straight goals to cut the lead to 14-3, but the Hens closed the game with six unanswered goals.
Freshmen Riley Gillin (2), Erin Gormley, Shannon Elias and Kellie Ann Matey, and senior Kristen Maxwell all found the back of the net in their collegiate debuts. Juniors Amelia Kienzle and Nikki Feaster each opened their collegiate scoring accounts with a pair of goals.
Freshman Jenna McHale and junior Meghan Johnson rounded out Delaware's scoring with two goals apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper Sophia Foohey made her collegiate debut with a pair of saves across 14:15 in the second half, while senior defender Taylor Fields picked up a ground ball in her first collegiate action.
Bradford filled the stat sheet with five ground balls and three caused turnovers, both game highs, to go with her five assists. Schweizer led the game with four draw controls. Delaware State's Moe Brown recorded 16 saves in the cage for the Hornets.
Delaware is back at Delaware Stadium on Friday, March 5 for a 3 p.m. game against Georgetown.
