Blue Hen Women’s Lacrosse Falls at La Salle, 7-4

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team dropped a low-scoring game to La Salle, 7-4, Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
The Explorers, who were playing their season opener, struck first on an Annini Iacobucci goal four and a half minutes into the contest. However the Blue Hens drew even on a goal by Jenna McHale, before Kendra Schweizer scored a free position goal to put Delaware in front at the 17:46 mark.
Following two La Salle goals, Kate Bradford connected on a free position shot to make it a 3-3 game with four and a half minutes left in the half. Lola Quigley found the back of the next with 2:36 on the clock to give the Explorers a slim 4-3 advantage at the break.
Bridget Ruskey scored the first two goals of the second half to extend the La Salle advantage, before Iacobucci added a marker of her own with 13:15 on the clock.
Danika Swech scored for the Blue Hens with 3:48 remaining, but Delaware would not get closer.
McHale, Swech and Shannon Elias each took three shots for Delaware, while Kate Brewster made nine saves in the UD cage.
