Hot Start Leads Men’s Lacrosse Past Drexel, 19-12

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Delaware men's lacrosse team put up nine goals in the first 15 minutes and cruised from there, defeating Drexel, 19-12 Saturday afternoon.
Senior captain Mark Bieda and junior Tye Kurtz and posted four goals apiece, with Kurtz dishing out one assist and Bieda adding two helpers. Mike Robinson (3&0) and Cam Acchione (3&1) chipped in a hat trick. The three goals and four points were both career highs for Acchione.
Sophomore Roland Hockenberry made an impact at the faceoff X, winning the first six attempts and going 12-of-27 on the day. Senior Matt Kilkeary stopped 11 shots, including several at clutch moments that stopped Drexel spurts.
The Hens came out scorching hot, scoring five goals before Drexel even had possession. Cam Acchione found the back of the net three times, including two s-dodges from the low right wing.
Owen Grant went coast-to-coast after a Drexel score to spark a four-goal Delaware run. After one period of action, the Blue Hens were ahead of the Dragons, 9-1.
Drexel opened the second-quarter scoring, but Delaware did not cool down, scoring three of the final four goals to take a 12-3 lead into the break.
The Dragons made a run in the third, scoring the first three and outscored the Blue Hens, 6-4, to make is a 16-9 game with 15 minutes to play.
Delaware would not relent, opening the fourth with three-straight goals and holding on to win 19-12.
The Blue Hens head back to the Tub, hosting Towson next Saturday.
