NEWARK, Del. – Emily Winburn fired a three-hit shutout in the opener before the Blue Hens pounded out 11 hits in the nightcap as the Delaware softball team remained unbeaten with a doubleheader sweep of Albany, 2-0 and 10-4, Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Hens took the lead in the bottom of the first inning of the opener, as Lexi Moore led off with a walk and eventually scored on a two-out single up the middle by Brooke Glanden.
Glanden then gave Delaware an insurance run in the fifth when she tripled to leftfield to drive home Hanna Garber.
Winburn would make the lead stand up, as she scattered three singles and didn't walk a batter while striking out eight to record the shutout.
Delaware again scored in the first inning of the nightcap, as Chayanna Gallardo ripped a two-run double to left to put the Blue Hens up a pair early. Garber singled home two the following frame, while Brittney Mendoza followed with a two-run triple to make it a 6-0 game. Glanden then delivered her second triple of the day to plate Mendoza, before Gallardo capped the rally with an RBI single.
Glanden doubled home Mendoza in the third, while Grace Rudolph crossed the plate when Kailey Christian reached on an error to put the Blue Hens up ten.
The Great Danes finally cracked the scoreboard with four runs in the top of the fourth, but Christian fired three shutout innings from there to seal the win.
Glanden finished the day with four hits and four RBI, while Gallardo added three hits and drove home three.
