NEWARK, Del. – Karolina Flores delivered four hits on the day as the Delaware softball team remained unbeaten by posting a pair of comeback wins over Lehigh, 5-4 and 8-7, Saturday afternoon.
After the Mountain Hawks scored three runs in the top of the first inning during the opener, Flores doubled home Halle Kisamore and then scored on a groundout by Sarah Bessel in the second to pull the Blue Hens within a run.
Lexi Moore reached on an error and eventually scored on a wild pitch in the third, while Flores again doubled home Kisamore in the fourth to put Delaware in front. Lehigh answered in the top of the fifth to pull even on an RBI double, before the Blue Hens answered in the bottom half for the winning run.
After Hanna Garber and Brittney Mendoza each singled, Brooke Glanden worked a walk to load the bases with one out. Chayanna Gallardo then hit a flyball that was caught in shallow centerfield by Emily Cimino, but her throw to the plate sailed over the catcher's head, allowing Garber to score.
Emily Winburn then fired two scoreless innings to earn her third win of the season.
The Mountain Hawks again scored three times in the first inning of the nightcap, and added single runs in the second and third to go up 5-0. Delaware got on the board in the bottom of the third when Grace Hrustich scored on a groundball hit by Garber and Mendoza added an RBI single.
Flores belted a solo homer in the fourth, while Hrustich doubled home Julz Garber later in the frame to make it a 5-4 game.
Lehigh scored twice in the top of the fifth to go back up three, but Delaware answered with four runs in the bottom half to go in front.
Moore scored the first run by crossing the plate when Glanden reached on an error, and after Mendoza scored on a wild pitch, Kisamore singled home Glanden to pull Delaware even. Flores then ripped her third double of the day, all to the gap in leftcenter, to chase home Kisamore with the winning run.
Winburn then tossed a pair of scoreless frames to pick up her first save of the season. Delani Sheehan, who gave up three runs in three innings of work, earned her first victory as a Blue Hen.
Flores finished the day with four hits, including three doubles and a homer, and drove home four runs, while Mendoza added three hits on the afternoon.
