Blue Hens Break Records in Outdoor Season Opener at UVA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Blue Hens opened their spring season with a very impressive showing at the University of Virginia Opener.
Tina Capparell started off the day running 10:53.85 in her 3000 meter steeplechase debut, making her the number three performer in school history.
Fellow distance runner Jessica Pidgeon won the 5,000 meter race with a time of 17:14.43, setting a new freshman record and moving up to number six in school history.
In the 800 meter race, Holly Manning placed second with a time of 2:08.05, while Jessica Harding came in fourth with a time of 2:12.43, moving Manning up to number two in school history and Harding up to ninth.
The Blue Hens also had a standout day in their field events, Kosie Nkwonta threw 13.09m (41'11.5") in the shot put, earning the number eight spot in school history.
Megan Albamonti and Fiona Letko finished first and second in the Javelin. Albamonti's throw of 45.25 meters (148'5") sets a new school and freshman record. Letko's throw of 39.66m (130'1") makes her the number ten all-time performer in the javelin.
"We had a great day at UVA. Although we only had 22 student-athletes competing today, we had well-rounded performances in the running and field events," said head coach Wendy McFarlane. "I am so proud these ladies for meeting the challenges and overcoming adversities to achieve personal best performances in our season opener. We look forward to even better performances leading into the CAA championship."
