Women's Lacrosse Drops 14-7 Decision To Coastal Carolina

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware women's lacrosse fell to Coastal Carolina, 14-7, inside Delaware Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Hens fell to 1-5 on the year, while the Chanticleers improved to 6-2 overall.
Sophomore Lizzie Hsu and junior Danika Swech each scored a pair of goals for Delaware, while Kate Bradford, Jenna McHale, and Meghan Johnson found the net as well. Senior goalkeeper Kate Brewster had nine saves in the cage for the Blue Hens.
Coastal's Kayla Downey led all scorers with seven points, scoring three goals and dishing four assists.
The Chants opened the scoring through Lauren Cremen, but Swech responded with a free position goal to knot the game at 1-1. After a 3-1 Coastal run, Hsu ended the half by dodging and firing a shot into the back of the net with three seconds on the clock to cut the lead to 4-3.
Coastal opened the second half on a 3-0 run, but Delaware bookended a Chants goal with scores from Hsu and a spinning dodge from Bradford to cut the lead back to 8-5. The Chanticleers closed the game on a 6-2 run to secure the 14-7 win.
The Blue Hens held a 12-11 advantage in draw controls, but committed 21 turnovers compared to 15 from Coastal, and the Chanticleers held a 20-11 advantage in ground balls.
Delaware opens Colonial Athletic Association play this Saturday, March 27 when it hosts Towson at 1 p.m. from Delaware Stadium.
