NEWARK, Del. – Junior Tye Kurtz tallied the most points since John Grant Jr. in 1999 (vs. North Carolina, April 3) as Delaware men's lacrosse bested Fairfield, 17-9, Saturday evening. The point total matches the fourth-highest in school history, joining Grant, Hayler Osborn (63), Bob Tait (56), and Don Swan (51).
Sophomore Mike Robinson added four goals and three assists. Fifth-year Charlie Kitchen chipped in five goals and two assists. Senior Matt Kilkeary made nine saves. Delaware scored on four extra man opportunities.
The Hens started hot, scoring the first two goals before Fairfield answered with three straight to take a 3-2 lead.
Delaware bounced right back, putting four-straight into the back of the net. Kurtz started the run with two goals and assisted on another. UD was ahead 7-5 at the break.
After a Robinson-Kurtz connection started the second-half scoring, Fairfield knotted the score at 8-8 at the 11:11 mark. Delaware inched ahead, 12-9, with 15 minutes to play.
The fourth was all Delaware, as the Blue Hens didn't allow a goal and Kitchen scored three of the five goals.
The Blue Hens continue on the road, heading to Drexel next Saturday.
