Delaware Pounds Towson, 17-2, To Complete Weekend Sweep

TOWSON, Md. – Delaware scored in all five innings as the Blue Hens completed a weekend sweep of Towson with an emphatic 17-2 victory over the Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
In the top of the first inning, Delaware loaded the bases with two outs before Chayanna Gallardo reached on an error by the Towson shortstop allowing two runs to score.
Brittney Mendoza drove home two more in the second when she hit a line drive off the glove of the Tigers third baseman, increasing the Blue Hens' lead to 4-0.
Towson got a run back in the bottom of the second, but Karolina Flores led off the third with a double and one out later Halle Kisamore blasted a two-run homer to make it a 6-1 game. Later in the frame, Hanna Garber and Lexi Moore both reached on errors to allow two more UD runs to score.
Kisamore doubled home Gallardo in the fourth before Emily Blum followed with a two-run homer, the first of her UD career, to increase the Blue Hens' advantage to 11-1.
After the Tigers plated a run in the bottom of the frame, Delaware scored six more times in the top of the fifth. Mendoza doubled home Moore to ignite the rally, and after Meredith Miller delivered an RBI single, Kisamore and Blum each added two-run doubles.
Kisamore finished 3 for 4 at the plate with two doubles, a homer and five RBI, while Blum was also 3 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBI. Mendoza went 3 for 5 with a double and three RBI, while Moore added two hits and drove home a run on the day.
Emily Winburn improved to 9-0 after allowing two runs on six hits during four innings in the circle, before Sarah Piening retired all three batters she faced in the fifth.
Delaware swept Towson in a three-game series for the first time since 2013, while its 15-run margin of victory is the largest in a CAA game in program history.
