HARRISONBURG, Va. – Several Delaware track and field athletes added their names to – or moved up in - the record books at the JMU Invitational on Saturday.
"We had a great weekend at UVA and JMU," said head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith, "It was exciting to see our student-athletes having fun cheering for each other. Their good vibes aided personal best performances in several events. We look forward to rewriting more records as we close out the regular season in two weeks."
For the field athletes, Megan Albamonti continues to dominate, winning the javelin event with a throw of 44.37 meters, enough to break the meet record.
Meredith Krieger broke into the record books with a 3.55 meter jump in the pole vault, improving to ninth in school history.
Two Blue Hens placed in the top five for the discus throw – Myrissa McFolling-Young's throw of 44.70 meters was good for third place, followed by Gabrielle Holliday's 43.90 meter toss for fourth.
Heading over to the track, Jessica Harding ran a new personal best and improved to ninth in school history in the 800 meter with a time of 2:12.01.
Aja Davis placed second in the 200 meter with a time of 24.69 seconds, becoming the number nine performer in school history.
Trinity Tapper and Davis went one and two in the 100 meter dash and also moved up in the school rankings. Tapper's time of 11.92 seconds moved her up to number three in school history, while Davis's time of 11.96 seconds was good for fifth.
In the relays, Delaware placed second in the 4x100 meter (runners: Aja Davis, Shylehn Ebuenga-Smith, Trinity Tapper, Kamylin Padgham) and third in the 4x400 meter (Jalynn Sharp, Roshelle Leaks, Alyssa Armor, Holly Manning).
Closing out the day for the Blue Hens, Tina Capparell wrapped up the meet with a win in the 5K, running 17:32.05.
