Blue Hens Continue Stellar Season At Philadelphia Metropolitan Collegiate Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Delaware track and field team had a strong showing at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.
"I am so proud of our student-athletes for their hard work and dedication this season," said head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith, "Today was a great day for some tune-up performances before we head into the CAA Championship next weekend. We are excited to bring some positive vibes into next week!"
Delaware's 4x100 meter relay team finished first with a season best time of 46.20 – the team consisted of Trinity Tapper, Kamylin Padgham, Shylehn Ebuenga-Smith, and Aja Davis.
Holly Manning finished second in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:23.54, becoming the number four performer in school history, while Roxanne Ramirez finished eighth with a 4:35.50 finish becoming the number ten performer in school history.
The Blue Hens continue to dominate in the field events. Freshman Megan Albamonti won the javelin with a throw of 44.73 meters.
The Blue Hens went one and two in the hammer throw – junior Bethany Clement won the title by nearly four meters with a throw of 54.61 meters, followed by Chioma Njoku's throw of 50.68 meters. Njoku also finished second in the shot put with a toss of 13.58 meters.
The Blue Hens finished third and fourth in the discus throw - Gabrielle Holliday toss of 47.89 meters was enough for third, followed by Myrissa McFolling-Young with a 47.12 meter throw.
Halimah Roberson jumped 12.16 meters in the triple jump, a season best and good for second place.
Bridget Joyce cleared 3.60 meters in the pole vault for a second place finish and improves to number eight in program history.
The Blue Hens will return to action in the CAA Championships on Thursday, April 29 in Harrisonburg, Va.
