TOWSON, Md. – The Delaware men's lacrosse team took care of business on Saturday after topping CAA rival Towson, 16-8, on the road in the 65th all-time meeting.
The Blue Hens (9-2, 6-1 CAA) picked up their sixth win in CAA play, a program-best mark. Delaware did so by scoring 16 goals opposite the Tigers (6-7, 3-4 CAA), the most in the series against Towson since April 10, 1999.
Several Blue Hens provided major contributions on the offensive end, including rookie Cam Acchione, who scored a career-high five goals on just five shots. Mike Robinson poured in a hat trick of his own, needing just four shots to tally three goals to go along with four ground balls.
Charlie Kitchen and Tye Kurtz facilitated much of the offense, combining for seven assists. Kitchen capped his afternoon with six points on two goals and four assists, and moved into third in program history with 233 career points. Kurtz, meanwhile, totaled five points on a pair of scores and three helpers.
In goal, Matt Kilkeary posted a standout performance, posting 13 saves while allowing a career-low eight goals. Eight of the senior's 13 stops came in the second half.
The Blue Hens opened play on a 4-1 run with Acchione tallying a pair of scores while Kitchen handed out two assists. Towson scored with three seconds left in the first quarter to make it a two-goal game, but Delaware answered with two quick goals in the second quarter to push the advantage to four, 6-2.
It was a sloppy second quarter for the Tigers, who were held scoreless for the entirety of the frame. Towson committed five turnovers and were limited to just four shots.
Delaware broke the game wide open in the third quarter with a 5-0 run that lasted nearly eight minutes to extend the advantage to eight, 11-3. Four different Blue Hens scored during the run, including Justin Scott, who tallied his 100th career goal.
The two sides went into the final quarter of action with Delaware leading by seven, 11-4. Towson scored six seconds into the frame, but the Blue Hens countered with a 3-0 run to go ahead by double digits before eventually securing the 16-8 road victory.
