CAA Championship Final Results
HARRISONBURG, Va. – Delaware placed third at the Colonial Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Championships being held at the University Park Track & Field Complex in Harrisonburg. It's the fourth finish in the top four for the Blue Hens in as many years.
"I am so proud of this team. Kudos to our All-Conference honorees," said head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith. "We went into the championship thinking it could be any team's win because of the COVID-19 barriers we all encountered this season, but we weren't going to give up our title without a fight. Our student-athletes did a phenomenal job in each event, capitalizing on top 8 finishes in multiple events to earn top-3 team finish. Thanks to our coaching staff, support staff and to our student-athletes who worked incredibly hard this season for favorable results. It truly is an honor and a privilege to be a Blue Hen!"
The defending champs earned a pair of individual championships and 13 top-three finishes over the course of the two-day championship, as they finished with 130 points as a team.
With the same tenacity she puts into her studies, Susanna Weir shattered her school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:33.26 to place second in the event and jump-start the Blue Hens action on the track on Saturday.
The quartet of Trinity Tapper, Kamylin Padgham, Shylehn Ebuenga-Smith, and Aja Davis effectively passed the baton around the track resulting in a time of 46.35 in the 4x100-meter relay to earn the silver medal.
Destiny DeBlock wrapped up her second day of the multi events with a total point tally of 4,132 points in the heptathlon to tie for seventh place. Also picking up seventh-place finishes were Sydni Stovall in the 400 meters (57.40) and Roxanne Ramirez in the 1,500 meters (4:37.71).
Delaware dominated the 800 meters this afternoon taking the top two podium spots. The Blue Hens return to Newark with the gold medal in the event for the second straight championship. With a Blue Hen already holding the meet and stadium record, Holly Manning etched her name in the record books breaking both of those times as she ran the 800m in 2:06.24 to set a new UD record. For her stellar performance, Manning was named the meet's co-Most Outstanding Women's Track Athlete. Jessica Harding completed the 1-2 sweep to earn the silver medal with a time of 2:12.87 and aid in UD's 18 points in the race.
Taliah Cintron took second place in the 400-meter hurdles after a strong push the last 200 meters. She registered a time of 1:02.38 to collect eight points for the Blue Hens.
With a time of 12.03 in the 100 meters, Davis sprinted to a third-place finish. Fighting the wind once again, Davis added a second bronze medal to her resume when she ran a time of 24.32 in the 200-meter final.
In the women's triple jump, Halimah Roberson leaped to a mark of 12.25m (40-2.25) to finish as the runner-up in the event.
