Blue Hens' Late Rally Snaps Northeastern’s Unbeaten Streak

A bounce-back game two win gives Northeastern its first conference loss
"We really took one on the chin in game one, but I couldn't be prouder of this team's resiliency to bounce back and play one of our best games of the year in game two," said head coach Jim Sherman. "It was great to see us pitch it like that against a strong offensive team and get timely hits when we needed them most."
Game One
Northeastern proved why it is one of the best offensive teams in the country with a 26-4 victory in game one. The Huskies scored in five of the first six innings and pounded 20 hits to run away with the day's first game.
Freshman Aidan Kane went 3-for-4 with a run and graduate student Kyle Baker was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Senior Vinny Vaccone hit a home run in the loss.
Game Two
This time, Delaware jumped out to the early lead when Baker drove home Kane in the third inning. Baker's hit streak is now at 14 games.
The Huskies were able to take a 2-1 lead in the fifth, but starting pitcher David Mervis was able to put a quality start together, going 5.0 innings, allowing three hits and two earned with three strikeouts.
Northeastern extended its lead to 3-1 in the top of the seventh before the Blue Hens erupted for four runs in the home half.
Junior Jordan Hutchins pounded a home run over the left-field wall before Vaccone tripled with two outs. Senior Jack Goan then doubled to center to score Vaccone and freshman Joey Loynd followed with a base hit to left field to score Carpenter and Goan.
Junior Mike Biasiello was brilliant out of the bullpen and held Northeastern scoreless over the final two innings to secure the win.
Biasiello tossed 4.0 innings with four strikeouts, allowing just four hits and an earned run. Junior Joseph Carpenter had a 2-for-3 game with a run and freshman Jake Dunion was 2-for-4.
The Blue Hens will honor their seniors and close out the regular season Sunday. The series finale with Northeastern is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.
