Delaware Posts Incredible Comeback to Win Golfweek Fall Challenge Title

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Delaware men's golf team entered the day trailing Mercer by 17 strokes but used a tremendous third round to come back and win the Golfweek Fall Challenge title.
The Blue Hens fired an 18 under par 270 on Tuesday, the second lowest team round in program history, to finish first out of 18 squads with an 834 total. That score is the lowest three-round total in UD history, easily eclipsing the previous mark of 848 set at the JMU Invitational in 2005.
Delaware earned its first team crown since winning the Colgate/Alex Lagowitz Memorial on Sept. 3-4, 2016. Mercer recorded a 288 score on Tuesday and finished one shot behind the Blue Hens at 835.
Roberto Nieves carded a 68 during his final round on the par 72, 7,005-yard True Blue Course, finishing in a tie for fourth place among individuals with a 10 under par 69-69-68-206. Nieves, who made five birdies on the day, tied for the third lowest three-round score in Blue Hen history. He now holds three of the four lowest 54-hole scores in program history.
Hugo Kedzlie enjoyed the lowest round of the day by a Blue Hen with a seven under par 65, tied for his career low round and tied for the third lowest in UD history. Kedzlie posted six birdies on the front nine, before adding two more on the 13th and 15th holes. He tied for ninth place at the tournament with an eight under par 72-71-65-208.
Sparky Ariyachatvakin recorded five birdies during his final round 68, tying for 21st place with a three under par 76-69-68-213. Michal Bargenda was the fourth Blue Hen in the 60's on Tuesday, tying for 26th place with a one under par 70-76-69-215.
Owen Manchester carded a six over par 72-72-78-222 to tie for 57th place at the invitational while Xiong Da, playing as an individual, tied for 59th place with a seven over par 75-72-76-223.
Delaware returns to action on Sept. 27-28 when the Blue Hens compete in the Villanova Fall Invitational.
