The University of Delaware men's golf team opens its 2021 fall season this weekend as the Blue Hens compete in the Turning Stone Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Missouri. The tournament consists of two rounds on Sunday and one Monday at Turning Stone Golf Course in Verona, N.Y.
"Our men's team is ready to start their season this weekend!" head coach Patty Post said. "We have a much bigger roster this year which will allow us to be more competitive at home and on the road at tournaments. We are looking to our returners Roberto Nieves, Hugo Kedzlie and newcomer Sahasawat (Sparky) Ariyachatvakin to lead the way. We are excited to play in our first tournament this weekend and play a full schedule of golf this year!"
Nieves was a first team All-CAA selection this spring when he ranked second in a UD single season by averaging 71.35 shots per round. Nieves was the Blue Hens' top finisher in all six tournaments, and placed among the top seven individuals in all but one invitational.
Kedzlie also competed in all six tournaments during the spring, ranking second on the team with a 74.35 average round and tying for seventh place at the CAA Championship. Michal Bargenda was third on the squad by posting a 75.14 stroke average in the spring.
Owen Manchester (76.53), Jack Halleron (77.14) and Elliot Haas (82.89) are also back for the Blue Hens. Ariyachatvakin, along with freshmen Matthew Adams, Xiong Da, Jack Kaewrahan and Egor Zubov, will look to immediately contribute to the squad.
Following the Turning Stone Intercollegiate, UD will also compete in the Golfweek Program Challenge on Sept. 12-14, the Villanova Invitational on Sept. 27-28, the Hoya Invitational on Oct. 10-11, and the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Oct. 24-26.
