Field Hockey Falls to Old Dominion

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware field hockey (4-9) dropped a non-conference game against No. 13 Old Dominion (9-2) 5-1 on Sunday at Rullo Stadium.
Despite the loss, the Blue Hens had a 16-11 shots advantage while the Monarchs had an 8-6 shots on goal advantage. Julia Duffhuis led the Blue Hens in shots with five. Lizzie Gaebel was credited with the loss and played 23 minutes in net. Eve Vickery played the remaining 37 minutes and had two saves.
The Monarchs got off to a strong start, scoring three goals in the first half. After Old Dominion extended its lead to 4-0, Emma Miller got the Blue Hens on the board with her first career goal as a Blue Hen in the 38th minute of the third quarter. Miller received a pass from Berber Bakermans and shot the ball past the diving goalkeeper at the right side of the net. It was Bakermans fourth assist of the season.
The Blue Hens travel to Towson, Md. for a Colonial Athletic Association game against Towson on Friday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.
